Teachers and Students in this Class Get All Nobel Prizes
It turns out that not only the Curie family who won the Nobel Prize, the whole class also won the Nobel Prize.
In the late 1930s, at the University of Chicago, Dr. Chandrasekhar is scheduled to teach astrophysics courses at an astronomical observatory located 130 km from the main campus.
Dr. Chandrasekhar waited for the class to start, but it turned out that only two students had registered for the course.
Usually the culture at the University, the lecturers will be proud if the courses they teach are famous and the students who apply are very large. However, Dr. Chandrasekhar is the exact opposite.
Due to the small number of students enrolling in this class, Dr. Chandrasekhar was laughed at by his fellow lecturers.
It feels like Dr. Chandrasekhar wants to just cancel this class, because he also has to travel 130 km round trip just for two students.
But, Dr. Chandrasekhar did not cancel this class because he really wanted to teach this course and did not want to miss the opportunity to teach intensely.
Because the class is small, the lecturers and students, teachers and students spend a lot of time discussing.
This was the smallest class that existed at the University of Chicago at the time.
Decades later, in 1957 the Nobel Prize committee awarded its award to all students in the smallest class on the outskirts of Chicago taught by Dr. Chandrasekhar.
TD Lee and CN Yang, they were the two students who won the 1957 Nobel Prize in Physics for their research on the theory of impermanent parity on the weak interactions of elementary particles.
While the teacher, Dr. Chandrasekhar received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1983 for his research on the physical processes that occur in the structure and evolution of stars.
